Huatulco National Park
Very pretty Huatulco Natural Park located a 2-hour drive from Puerto Escondido. The park will allow you to discover still abundant flora and fauna and is bordered by sublime beaches. It’s a trip that takes a little time to prepare for. With a guide for example and a night on site but it’s quite interesting to do it. Huatulco has several magnificent bays and small islands accessible by boat. You can find boats on site that take you to explore the area with snorkeling stops (fins, snorkel masks) or swimming on wild beaches...
mitla
it is an important archaeological site, also linked to Zapotec culture, approximately 2 hours drive from Puerto Escondido. You will notably discover the very pretty church of San Pablo.
La Reforma Waterfalls
Picturesque waterfalls located approximately 3 hours from Puerto Escondido, offering a beautiful getaway into nature. They are located inland, approximately 1h30 by car from Puerto Escondido.

These are incredible natural rock formations like waterfalls or natural petrified pools. Again it is about 2 hours drive from Puerto Escondido.
Bocana del Río Eco-Archaeological Park of Copalita
The archaeological site covers approximately 35 hectares Bocana del Río de Copalita It welcomes archaeologists and enthusiasts who have been working on restoring old buildings for over ten years. It is located just over 2 hours by car from Puerto Escondido.
Monte Albán
Essential, as it is rightly considered a major archaeological site of the Zapotec civilization. But Mount Alban is located approximately 6 hours' drive from Puerto Escondido...

It’s not exactly close either! But this beautiful city with its historic center and colonial buildings is still listed as a well-preserved UNESCO world heritage site.
Museo de las Culturas de Oaxaca: for museum enthusiasts it is located in the city of Oaxaca, about 6 hours from Puerto Escondido. The museum offers permanent exhibitions on the cultural history of the region. This can be justified if you are staying in Oaxaca because there are other visits to the city. Santo Domingo de Guzmán Church: it is a beautiful baroque church located in Oaxaca. It has very impressive architecture and is one of the most visited sites. Zócalo de Oaxaca: The main square of Oaxaca city is surrounded by beautiful colonial buildings and very nice restaurants. It’s a bit of an obligatory stop when visiting Oaxaca.

A word of advice: there is a lot of walking, often in full sun, sometimes on stony or sandy paths... Remember to bring a good pair of comfortable walking shoes, a hat (better than a cap), a shirt or a thin long-sleeved t-shirt, always have a bottle of water, sunscreen, a swimsuit, a beach towel and something to eat (energy bar, apple, etc.).
