What sports and activities can you practice during your stay?
Puerto Escondido is located on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, in the heart of Oaxaca between sea, plains and mountains.
It is very easy to find activities on land and sea.
Scuba diving and snorkeling
There are several interesting places for scuba diving and snorkeling along the coast near Puerto Escondido. Islands in the region can be visited for diving experiences.
Trekking
It is already possible to go for a walk to discover the surrounding beaches, such as Playa Bacocho or Playa Carrizalillo, by walking along the coast. Or via trails for other sites.
Next to Puerto Escondido you can discover the Manialtepec ecological reserve with beautiful hiking trails through the mangrove where you can have the chance to see a lot of wild animals and especially birds.
You can also take beautiful walks around the Llano Grande Waterfalls. It is a village about 1h30 drive from Puerto Escondido. There are hiking trails in the forest up to the waterfalls.
2 hours drive from Puerto Escondido, you will also find the Chacahua National Park with hiking trails very rich in tropical flora and fauna leading to the famous lagoon.
For the more experienced, you can push on to San Pedro Mixtepec. There you will find mountain hiking trails with the reward of magnificent panoramic views.
Cycling and mountain biking
Little cycling or mountain biking in the region. But it is possible to organize mountain biking days with a guide from local operators.

Whales and dolphins
You can find boat trips that offer opportunities to see humpback whales and dolphins in the surrounding waters. It depends on the season, but many local operators offer these excursions. Dolphin excursions departing from Puerto Escondido or La Punta
Fishing
Very nice sport fishing trips can be organized from Puerto Escondido. Big game fishing is obviously king in the area with frequent catches of Marlin or Coryphene Dorado.

Surf
Puerto Escondido is a high place of Surf. There you will find clubs to take lessons or rent a board. There are many spots for surfs with varying levels of difficulty depending on the sites and seasons. We devote a page to the practice of surf.
